Day 01 – SOFIA
Arrival at Sofia airport. Transfer to hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Day 02 – SOFIA - VELIKO TURNOVO - ARBANASSI - VELIKO TURNOVO
After breakfast drive to the town of Veliko Turnovo - the ancient capital of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom (12th -14th C.), picturesquely situated on the hills at the banks of the meandering river Jantra. Visit of the medieval fortress of Tsarevets hill and of Samovodska charshiya - handy craft street. Sightseeing of Arbanassi – 17th C. fortified village with entrance to Jesus Christ’s Nativity Church which interior is covered in frescos depicting 2000 scenes. Dinner and overnight at hotel in Turnovo.
Day 03 – VELIKO TURNOVO - KAZANLAK - PLOVDIV
Drive to Plovdiv via Shipka Pass and Rose Valley. Stop at Shipka monument for pictures. Visit to the Shipka Memorial church with golden domes. Entrance to the Ethnographical outdoor museum Etura with its 18th - 19th C. crafts. Arrival in Plovdiv in the afternoon. Walking tour in the old part of the town with beautiful old houses from the Bulgarian Revival period (18th – 19th C.). Entrance to the St. St. Konstantin and Elena church and to the Roman Theatre. Dinner and overnight at hotel in Plovdiv.
Day 04 – PLOVDIV - RILA MONASTERY - SOFIA
Departure to Rila Monastery across the magnificent nature of the Rila and Rhodope Mountains. Stop at winter resort Borovets. Visit of the largest and one of the oldest Bulgarian monasteries (10th C.), included in the UNESCO World Heritage List with medieval defence Hrelyo tower from the 14th C. and fine frescoes. Departure to the capital Sofia. Dinner and overnight at hotel in Sofia.
Day 05 – SOFIA
Sightseeing eing of the capital town incliding visit of St. Sofia statue, St. George Rotunda, Ruins of Serdica, National Theater, Russian church, Al. Nevski Cathedral and St. Sofia church. In the afternoon entrance to Boyana Church, located at the foot of the Vitosha Mountain, built in stages, the oldest part in the 11th C. (UNESCO site). Dinner and overnight in Sofia.
Day 06 – SOFIA - SKOPJE
Departure to Skopje – the capital of Macedonia. Sightseeing of Skopje city - Kale Fortress, the Museum of Macedonia, St. Spas church dating from 1348 year, the Stone Bridge, Daut Pasha’s Bath 1489/1497 year, Kurshumli Han (a monument from 1550 year). A stroll through out the Old Bazaar in Skopje, the church St.Pantelejmon -Nerezi. Dinner and overnight at hotel
Day 07 - SKOPJE - OHRID
Departure to Ohrid. Walking through the old streets of Ohrid, passing by its traditional architecture, you will be constantly aware of its monuments to different periods of history. Visit the Ohrid Fortress - the Fortress of Tzar Samuel, the crown of Ohrid and of Lychnidos, Sv.Bogorodica Perivlepta – the Church of the Holly Mother of God Perivleptos dating from 1295, the Gallery of icons, belong to the period between the 11th and the 19th centuries, the Antique Theatre - the oldest antique theatre in Macedonia, St.Sofia church – the cathedral church of the Ohrid Episcopate, with its outstanding architectural construction and invaluable frescoes dating from the 11th and 12th centuries. Dinner and overnight at hotel in Ohrid.
Day 08 - OHRID - ST.NAUM MONASTERY - OHRID
Departure for monastery complex St.Naum by boat. The monastery complex St. Naum (dated from 9th century), built by St. Naum, a disciple of St. Cyril and Methodius, and is one of the most significant monasteries in the Balkans, situated on the Macedonian-Albanian border on the west side of the attractive Mount Galicica. Return to Ohrid. Dinner and overnight.
Day 09 - OHRID - STRUGA - TIRANA
Departure to Albania. On the way stop in Struga. Visit of the monastery Holy Mother of Kalista and the cave church from 14th C. Arrival in Tirana - the capital of Albania. Sightseeing tour of Tirana, starting from the Skanderbeg square. Visit in the National History Museum, E`them Bey Mosque, Clock Tower etc. Continue to the main boulevard where are found the different ministries, Academy of Fine Arts, Main University etc. Dinner and overnight in Tirana.
Day 10 – TIRANA - BERAT - APOLLONIA - VLORA
Depart towards Berat in the morning. Visit to the castle, built up on a rocky hill 260m above the sea level, to the Onouphrios Iconographic Museum in a former church, which preserves wooden-engraved iconostasis, to the Lead Mosque, Bachelor’s Mosque and many dwelling houses of the 18th and 19th centuries. Afterwards travel to Apollonia - one of the most well known archeological sites in the country. Visit the Amphitheatre, the Monument of Agonotheteve, Odeon, Portic, the Mosaics House, Fontana, and the church of Saints Mary. Departure to Vlora. Dinner and overnight in Vlora.
Day 11 – VLORA - SARANDA - BUTRINT - SARANDA
Departure to Saranda traveling along the seashore. On the way visit of the Castle of Porto Palermo placed near Himara, also called as the castle of Ali Pashe Tepelena. After visiting this castle, the road along the seashore passes many beautiful villages such as Qeparo, Borsh and others. Departure for ancient city of Butrint. Visit to the Old Amphitheatre, the Temple of Aesculapius, the Baptistery with colorful mosaics and the ancient city walls. An old fortress housing a small museum watches over the entire site, which is one of the last unspoiled natural and ancient historical areas in Mediterranean. Back in Saranda for dinner and overnight.
Day 12 – SARANDA - GJIROKASTRA - DURRES
After breakfast, departure to the museum-town Gjirokastra. The characteristic houses resemble the towers and are build one above the other. All the homes have the form of medieval towers. Visit to the castle, which stands out above the city as a balcony, providing the possibility to enjoy the beautiful landscape. The castle houses the National Museum of Weapons, which preserves all the kinds of weapons used and produced by the Albanians from antiquity. As we leave Gjrokastra, travel towards the city of Durres. Dinner and overnight in Durres.
Day 13 – DURRES - KRUJA - AIRPORT
In the morning travel to Kruja medieval town, located on the slope of a mountain. An old bazaar leads you up to the castle of the National Hero Skanderbeg. Visit of the castle of the city, housing the Skanderbeg Museum and the Ethnographic museum. Transfer to the airport.
