Cultural tour through Rila, Pirin and the Rhodopes

Day 01 – Arrival in Sofia. Transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight at 4-star hotel in Sofia.

Day 02 – After breakfast drive to Plovdiv. Sightseeing of the old part of the town with beautiful old houses from the Bulgarian Revival period (18 th – 19 th C.). Lunch. Entrance to the Ethnographic museum and to the Roman Theatre. Time for leisure. Dinner and overnight at 4-star hotel in Plovdiv.

Day 03 – Departure to Bansko – winter ski resort in Pirin mountain. Stop in Velingrad for lunch. Visit of Dobarsko village with entrance to the St.st. Thereon and Theodore church (1614) – UNESCO protected monument of culture with unique mural painting featuring Jesus Christ in a rocket. Folklore surprise. Tasting of home made specialties – round bread - “pogacha” and Bulgarian pastry “banitza”. Dinner at tavern with local specialities. Overnight at 4-star hotel in Bansko.

Day 04 – Time for enjoying the atmosphere of the picturesque small town with typical old houses from the National Revival period. Visit of the Holly Trinity church (1832) and the ethnographic exhibition-bazar of traditional crafts in Bansko. Lunch. Half - day tour to Goce Delchev – famous crafts center in the 19 C. Entrance to the History - Ethnographic museum. Visit of the villages Kovachevitsa and Leshten - both cultural and historical reserves, located in Western Rhodopes National Park. Back to Bansko. Dinner and overnight at the same hotel.

Day 05 – Departure to Sandanski – famous spa resort. Lunch. Trip to Melnik – museum town, scenically located at the foothills of sandstone pyramids, famous for its ancient architecture and red wine. Visit of the Rozhen monastery. Entrance to the Kopdopulova house. Wine tasting of the famous local red wines. Dinner with specialties from the region at typical Bulgarian tavern. Back to Sandanski. Overnight at 4-star hotel in Sandanski.

Day 06 – Departure to Rila Monastery - visit of the largest and one of the oldest Bulgarian monasteries (10 th c.), included in the UNESCO World Heritage List with medieval defence tower from the 14 th C. and fine frescoes. Lunch. Drive to Sofia. Dinner with folklore show (4-course menu with wine). Overnight at 4-star hotel in Sofia.

Day 07 – Full-day sightseeing tour of the city, including a walk in the central area with visit to Al. Nevski Cathedral, St.Sofia Church, Russian Church, Ruins of Serdica, St. George Rotunda (4 th C. AD). Entrance to the Boyana church with unique frescos from the 13 th C. (monument of the UNESCO World Heritage List) and to the National History museum. Farewell dinner. Overnight at the same hotel.

Day 08 – Transfer to Sofia airport. Departure.
