Rose festival

Day 01 - Arrival at Sofia airport. Sightseeing in the central area – Al.Nevski Cathedral, St. Sofia, Ruins of Serdika, St.George Rotunda. Dinner and overnight at 4-star hotel in Sofia.

Day 02 - Sofia-Rila Monastery- the biggest and one of the oldest in Bulgaria (founded in the 10th c.), one of the Bulgarian monuments, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List with medieval defense tower from the 14th c. and fine frescoes. Drive further to the south for dinner and overnight in Sandanski – famous Bulgarian spa resort. Accommodation at 4-star hotel in Sandanski.

Day 03 - Drive to Melnik – the smallest Bulgarian town, situated among sandy pyramids with characteristic houses from 18th-19th c. Drives to Bansko – typical mountain settlement with old traditional houses; dinner at local tavern with specialities of the region and live music. Overnight at 3-star hotel in Bansko.

Day 04 - Sightseeing of the town – visit to The Holy Virgin church and local Ethnographic exhibition. Drive to Plovdiv across the magnificent nature of the Rhodopes mountain. On the way visit of Dobarsko village and its St.st.Thereon and Theodore church (1614) – UNESCO protected monument of culture with unique mural painting featuring Jesus Christ in a rocket. Dinner/overnight at 4- star hotel in Plovdiv.

Day 05 - Sightseeing of the old town (mainly by foot) with visit of the Roman Theatre (2nd c. AD) and St,Konstantine and Helena Church. In the afternoon - excursion to the Bachkovo Monastery (11th c.), the second biggest monastery in the country with frescoes from the 17th c. Dinner at typical Bulgarian restaurant with local specialties. Overnight at the same hotel.

Day 06 - Early breakfast and drive to Kazanlak – participation to the Rose festival: rose picking in the rose fields, authentic rose distillery, presentation of ethereal oils used in the perfumery and tasting of rose jam and rose brandy. Entrance to the Thracian tomb. Open-air buffet lunch barbeque, soft and alcoholic drinks included, with folklore show and national souvenir for everyone. Late afternoon drive to Veliko Tarnovo across the Shipka pass. Dinner, overnight at 4-star hotel in Veliko Tarnovo.

Day 07 -  Sightseeing Veliko Tarnovo – capital of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom (12th-14th c.) visit of the Tsarevets hill with ruins from the king’s palace and the medieval fortress. Visit of the Arbanassi village – architectural reserve with houses and churches from 17th-19th c. Drive to Sofia. Farewell dinner with wine. Overnight  at the same hotel.

Day 08 - Departure.
